Wanna put on a costume and race decorated shopping carts between Cotati pubs for a good cause? We need you! To come out and support the Cotatitarod. Find four hardy friends and run this crazy race. Read on for all the ways you can get involved in our shopping cart race.

Cotatitarod 2019

When: Saturday, March 2, 2017.
Where: La Plaza Park, Cotati, California.
Why: To raise food and money for the Redwood Empire Food Bank.

10:00 AM – Check in begins
1:00 PM – Race starts
4:00 PM – Award ceremony

Cotatitarod is a 5k foot race, pub crawl, food drive, costume contest, and art cart parade. This charity event is not for the faint of heart! Creativity is encouraged. Good-natured sabotage is expected. Scrap art trophies are awarded for to teams for speed, best costumes, best decorated cart, most food donated, best sabotage, and spirit of the event. There is also a separate art cart category for carts modified beyond standard size and caster wheels.

A donation of at least 60 pounds of food for the Redwood Empire Food Bank is required from each team of five participants: one “musher” and four “dawgs.” Pre-registration is necessary, and the registration fee is $50 for each team of five. The racer teams zip around the double hexagon surrounding La Plaza Park on the sidewalks of Cotati for a beverage-fueled romp that circles both ends of town before returning to the park. The race pauses at five checkpoints along the way for questions of a historical nature, stupid human tricks of a hysterical nature, and libations of any nature.

Not down to run a 5k but still want to play? Adopt a checkpoint! You can run the games for the runners and make your stop along the race a theme camp experience. Rather see the race in progress? Jump on a bike and be a Bike Marshal! You can help racers stay on route riding along with the carts. We need flaggers and volunteers to help out in the park, lots of ways for you to get involved and meet some local burners.
