March NorthBayNews

Happy Spring North Bay Burners!

I am happy to announce we have a new event in progress. Thanks to the inspiration of the Chicago Burners and their CHIditarod we have our very own shopping cart race here in Cotati – that’s right, you guessed it, the Cotatitarod! We’ve gotten the Cotati City Council’s stamp of approval and are set to race on Saturday, April 29th starting at La Plaza Park in beautiful downtown Cotati. Read all about it here. Or see below for how to get in on the ground floor.

We’ve been invited to check out a new maker space out on Todd Road, very excited. The newly formed 180 Studios will be hosting us on Saturday, March 25th for a t-shirt screening, sticker making tour of their new facilities. Thank you to Witchy for reaching out and offering to have us over!

Also, it is almost Burnal Equinox, and you’re all invited to the big soirée in San Francisco to celebrate the midpoint between Burns. Get there early and check out all the awesome. It is sure to be a fun night.

On your marks, get set…go!

xoxo RLL

Art • Music • Performance • Theme Camps • Laughter • You!

“When the world becomes too serious, humor is the best way to pull the rug from beneath our senses and restore our footing in the world.” – The Ancient Puppet Oracle of Lost Socks

This year’s Burnal Theme will focus on HUMOR and rituals related to it! Humor comes in many forms and is an essential part of human survival, social dialogue, play, and innovation. Humor can reveal the truth, change perspectives, open minds, and pave the way for understanding and deeper human experience. At a time when there has been grief, trauma and fear, we will seek to respond by creating a safe and sacred creative playground for humor, laughter, and perseverance to unfold.

New this year! We are adding an early evening component you will not want to miss: The Intra-Psychic Puppet Dinner Theatre*, featuring wise (cracking) puppet oracles, a Sock Puppet Creation Station, The Altar of Missing Socks (bring your offerings), and much more! If you are a puppeteer (or know one), we would love for you to join us.

*Brought to you by The People’s Papal DIY Hand Puppet Emporium of Prophecy and Absurditum

)'( )'( HOMELESS CARE PACK INFO )'( )'(

Make your participation at Burnal Equinox extra meaningful!

One of the principles of Burning Man is: Gifting. Please consider helping those less fortunate by contributing several items from the list below. The best result will be achieved if people bring at least one item from Group A, or a bag of items from Group B. Backpacks and other supplies will be provided by Burning Man and distributed to the homeless with love and care by members of our volunteer Community Events Team.

There will be no special discount for participating in the backpack program for the homeless. However, if you’d like a discounted entry price you can purchase your tickets early or arrive between 6:00pm – 7:00pm for the special early program—which you really don’t want to miss, anyway! : )

THANK YOU SO MUCH for being part of the success of this effort to help the homeless. You rock!

Burnal Backpack Items Request List

GROUP A ITEMS:
– New Socks (packages of at least 3 pair) – men’s size 10-13 is most common, women’s size 9-11; put each pair in a Ziploc bag. Socks are usually thrown away once they get too dirty to wear as most homeless do not have access to laundry services.
– New Underwear (packages of at least 3) – men’s boxers size M/L or Large; women’s basic brief size L(8-9), or XL(10); any color, cotton or cotton blend. Just like the socks, once they get too dirty to wear they are usually thrown away.
– Tarp (1) – 6 ft x 8 ft tarps any color works but green and brown colors are best.

GROUP B ITEMS:
PLEASE PUT ALL ITEMS IN A GALLON ZIPLOC BAG
Toiletries: Your choice of 5 items from the list below
Note: liquid items should be no larger than 8 oz each. When it gets too heavy it’s a burden to move and can get tossed.
– Wet wipes – like the kind most of us use on playa
– Disposable twin-blade razors and shave cream
– Feminine personal hygiene items: tampons, panty-liners, pads, etc.
– Antibiotic ointment or cream – any size tube
– Toothbrush – soft bristles as many homeless have severe dental concerns
– Toothpaste – tarter control is always good
– Soap – Liquid soap is best
– Shampoo/Conditioner – combo items are great
– Hand Sanitizer – no floral scents
– Lotion – skin calming or extra moisturizing is helpful

We have been invited for a special hands-on preview of the new maker space in town. Witchy is going to help us put vinyl transfers of the North Bay Burners logo onto our own t-shirts. Bring something you want to have the logo on, she says it can be on anything that can be ironed. We can also make stickers!

Check out the new place, and get a private tour. Make stuff! Meet Witchy, the volunteer coordinator. And generally hang out with some local Burners doing fun things. Thank you to Miss Witchy for inviting us over, we are excited to see what you guys are making happen.
