September NorthBayNews

We’re back! Well mostly. Still have a lot of things to dust off and a ton of unpacking to do, but the event has ended and a new year has begun. It was a strange one to be sure, the Man was not complete when I arrived on Playa – that’s never happened before. Then an upside down, headless man hung suspended for days while mechanical problems and gusty winds stalled installations all over the city. Finally the Man was righted and his head was put on straight, but he never turned the much anticipated cartwheels. He presided over Black Rock City in a stately manner nonetheless, despite being fashionably late to his own party.

Our on playa meet and greet was a dance party this year, and yours truly took the helm and provided the soundtrack as guest DJ for Campoline on Wednesday night. I got to contribute to the soundscape for no less than four solid hours, pushing tunes by Prince and Bowie until almost midnight while Jeremy manned the bar. At one point we had a whole crowd out on the dance floor boogieing down to the funky beat. It was a retro dance fest, and with newly shcwagged spike bracelet blinkies we partied into the night. We busted out our best 80’s moves and celebrated the lives and work of our Heroes, just like it was 1999. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it a rager, you know who you are!

Not a whole lot to report, just wanted to say hi and welcome back to the default. I hope you are decompressing well, here are some upcoming events that might help ease your transition.
