Holy smokes North Bay, it’s hot out there. Even for burners! The weather underground keeps saying tomorrow is going to be cooler, so far rumours of a cooler tomorrow are highly suspect. but I am still completely convinced that Next Year was So Better!
So I think we are a theme camp! the North Bay Oasis is a thing, not sure where we are yet, or if we are even going to be officially placed but I will let you know as soon as I find out. We have room for a few more happy campers so if you want to help host the game room or camp with us or bring games or help decorate let me know!
We are also working on our North Bay Souk participation with the help of the fabulous DC crew who are the Innkeepers for the marketplace around the feet of the Man. We are going to make stuff, bring stuff, and then give stuff away. It could be found art objects, decorated tins, or any manner of upcycled creations galore. The idea is to create faux artifacts from an imagined past that we will hawk to passerby and then gift away. Come play!
Salon is a pool party July 19th up at Jack and Bronwyn’s place. Yep, they are back and ready to take another whack. More details soon, prepare to bbq and lounge.

Call for Participation in Cafe Speakers’ Series
Share your research, your analysis, your expertise and experiences through a structured forum to challenge assumptions and start conversations. The Center Camp Cafe Speaker Series is in its 4th year, and we need YOU! This year’s topic:
‘Psychical nomadism’ is a philosophical term that refers to the practice of taking as one needs from any moral, religious, political, ethical, or whatever system, and leaving behind the parts of that system found to be unappealing.
Morning Talks: Spoken Word Stage, Monday-Sunday 9am-11am.
These talks will be brief, well-structured and intimate. Talks will be 5-15 minutes, followed by a short moderated Q & A.
Afternoon Talks: Longer form talks on the Performance Stage, Tuesday-Sunday 4-5pm.
Talks will be 45 minutes, followed by a short moderated Q & A.

*When Does the Black Rock City Gate Open? The Answer May Shock You!*
In 2014, through coordination with the BLM, we will be opening the Black Rock City Gate to participants earlier and closing it later in order to maximize use of daylight hours, minimize traffic impacts on local roads, smooth out traffic flow, and create a safer travel situation for everybody. This is a one-year experiment, and if it goes well, it could mean we continue it in the future.
*INGRESS*
This year we have approval from BLM to open the Black Rock City Gate for Burning Man participants at 10am on Sunday, August 24. NO early arrivals are allowed before that time without an Early Arrival Pass!
*THE EVENT*
The event itself officially starts at 6pm Sunday, August 24, and it’s expected that participants use the earlier arrival time as opportunity to set up their camp infrastructure during the day. The event officially ends at 6pm on Monday, September 1, 2014, after which people are expected to start breaking down their camps, conduct Leave No Trace efforts, and prepare to depart the city.
*EXODUS*
This year we have authorization from BLM to allow Exodus to extend through Tuesday, September 2 at noon, allowing for a safe and smooth egress period. So if the line of cars in Exodus is too long, and your schedule allows, you may want to wait in your camp. Use the extra time to rest for the drive, secure your vehicle loads, MOOP your campsite, or your block. Plan accordingly so that you’re out of the city by Tuesday at noon.
Remember, this is one-year experiment by the BLM and Burning Man to help ease the traffic backups on entry and Exodus. If everyone works together and is off the playa by noon Tuesday, we will look at continuing the extended opening and departure in future years. Help us smooth out the traffic flow!

Trips for Kids has bikes for Burning Man To find LOTS OF VERY affordable, recycled bikes for Burning Man visit Re-Cyclery, a bike thrift store operated by Trips for Kids. Re-Cyclery is located at 610 4th Street in San Rafael and is open Tuesday – Friday noon – 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Each year Trips for Kids takes hundreds of inner-city kids from the Bay Area on guided mountain bike adventures, many of whom have never been outside of their urban neighborhoods. Hi there! My name is Carrie, and I design clothes. One of my lines, Bilancia, is inspired by the awesome creativity I see on the playa each year. On July 10th I’m hosting a runway show of this year’s designs. I think Burners would really get a kick seeing the designs. There will be 8 models with 2 changes for a total of 16 outfits to inspire and desire. All one of a kind, and all about individual expression. All my materials are on their second life cycle so there’s love for the earth in there, too. Also, JB Quadrobe from Opulent Temple is DJing. It’s going to be a party.
