September NorthBayNews Redux

Dear North Bay Burners,

As promised here is your second post for the month. Mostly because I said I would! I’m still digging myself out of the piles, and haven’t yet synthesized my experience into some pithy nugget to share. As usual the Burn was challenging in that oh, you think you’re good? Well try this! Sort of way. It was also epic, amazing, exhausting, super fun, and ever inspiring. All the packing and planning and hauling of cookies to and fro aside, that one moment where I rode out alone into the night to see the poofers, blinkies and builds was magic. Nothing like taking your vacation in the city that’s only there when you are! Ever changing and always new, my annual pilgrimage to Black Rock City continues to enchant.

I hope you had fun with whatever you chose to do this year, and that you’re recovering nicely. Here are a few things to remind you what it’s all about.

xoxo RLL

SF Decompression 2018 – Call for Participation!

Bring the spirit and imagination of Black Rock City to the Bay and help create the 2018 incarnation of “Black Top City” — an urban version of Burning Man along the historic Bayshore waterfront at the historic Potrero Power Station, here! Our community will once again create a wonderful microcosm of BRC, with art, mutant vehicles, theme camps, inner- and deep-playa, performance, and discovery – in a black-top setting at a brand new location! We’ll have even more extra setup and strike time, so together we will take the art and theme camp participation to the next level! We want to hear from participants ASAP to make this the best Decompression ever!

Theme camps and sound camps, art, fire art, art cars and mutant vehicles – let us know what you’d like to share by filling out our Decompression Participation Questionnaire here!

Performers of all stripes, musicians, bands, dancers, DJs, variety acts, fire performers – please complete this quick Decompression Performer Submission Form here!

Just like creating BRC, Black Top City is built with love by volunteers! Decompression happens through dedicated volunteer efforts, cooperation, gifting, and community in action. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays now through October 28th, visitors will be able to self-guide di Rosa’s galleries, Sculpture Meadow, Olive Grove and Courtyard on their own. You’ll also be able to walk the scenic drive alongside Winery Lake and enjoy di Rosa’s beautiful grounds, all on your own.

This is the first time in di Rosa’s storied history that the grounds will be open for visiting without a guide, so be sure to come by this fall to explore and observe the art at your own pace. While you are here, let us know what you think about your di Rosa experience!

Hello Friends:
The Man has returned to the dust in Black Rock City and we are excited to channel our inspiration from this transformational place into our first Burning Man Convening at Esalen in Big Sur, California.
Registration is now open for you to join us from Sunday October 14 – Friday October 19, 2018 focused on Art, Culture, Leadership, and Collective Impact. If you would like to attend, please register at your earliest convenience to save your spot using the links below.
Just as Burning Man events provide blank canvas to co-create, we think that the power of positive change emerges when we gather and imagine what’s next together.
We hope you will join us on the magical grounds of the Esalen Institute. You may register to build art with accomplished artist Dana Albany, discuss Burning Man principles and culture with Director of Education and philosophical steward Stuart Mangrum, develop your leadership skills with Burning Man Project Founding Board member and Chief Transition Officer, Harley K. Dubois, or plan collective impact with Burning Man Project Founding Board member and CEO Marian Goodell.
In line with Burning Man’s mission, the Ten Principles of Burning Man, and Esalen’s mission, we’d like to help those seeking to acquire skills and knowledge to transform their lives and the world at large by offering a limited number of scholarships for this gathering. To qualify, one will be required to demonstrate financial need and scholarship recipients will be asked to complete an online questionnaire about their experience with Burning Man, Esalen and the impact either has had on them and their world. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship please fill out the Esalen Scholarship Questionnaire.
Equally, we have heard from generous community members willing to support this event who can not attend. Please let me know and I’ll earmark your sponsorship towards someone committed to participating with us!
If you’re not able to commit, but would like to be kept in the loop over the next few weeks as we move towards the start of this convening please send us a message and we’ll send you updates. We are probably going to add an option to participate that’s not already outlined here. Additionally, we will keep you up to date for future events if you’d like. Just let us know. Email: esalen2018@burningman.org
The work to bring Burning Man culture to the world has room for many participants at different levels of engagement. Looking forward to meeting you at Esalen or out in the world!
Very best,
Marian Goodell
CEO
Burning Man Project
**The mission of The Burning Man Organization is to facilitate and extend the culture that has issued from the Burning Man event into the larger world
