Northern California Flame Effects For the Artist Workshop and camp out…
April 7th and 8th 2018 Garberville California

Hot tub, sauna, campfire and some great learning in the awesome hills of Northern California!! Man this is going to be a good one. Long time Fire Artists PresentTeck Labs and Mischief Labs will be our hosts along with and Bella Vita Fire. These folks have been working with fire and between them have burned thousands of gallons of fuel all in the name of fun. Ow ya they also have a great track record of safety!

We will be at the super chill Heartwood Institute with great classroom space, camping and cozy lodgings. Here is more information on the host groups:

PresentTeck Labs Special effects and Art
Mischief Labs A group of organized pyros that specialize in propane fire effects!
Bella Vita Fire
Heartwood Institute

This is the class is for all artists, mechanical enthusiasts and all of who wish to incorporate fire aspects into their projects! This is your chance to learn how to meet NFPA standards, hear from others working flame effects where you live and have fun while learning safe practices.

Class details:
The two day workshop will be presenting NFPA codes, basic practices and hands on work for those incorporating fuel based flame effects into your work. This class is great for the beginning fire artist and always has something new for the “expert”. Each one of these classes has drawn participants who have had all levels of experience. This has made for some great questions and projects that have been both fun and challenging.

The first day will consist of a classroom session where we will discuss subjects including:

NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) guidelines including NFPA 54 and 58 the LP gas codes.
NFPA 160 Flame Effects Before a Live Audience and other codes.

We will also examine the physical properties of LP gasses and get some hands on time with fittings and parts. Of course, we closely examine the wonders of LP gas with the amazing clear propane cylinder. We will then finish off by taking a look at some typical designs for Flame Effects including accumulators, free burning effects, fuel mortars, pilot lights, hot surface igniters and much more. We will have plenty of demonstrations and hands on materials.

The second day will be a shop day where we will put what we have learned into action and create a one of a kind flame effect from the materials on hand. The best part of the class is the assembly of the effect so please let us know if you have materials or elements you may like to see incorporated. This class will be fun for the artist who is thinking of incorporating a small flame element into their work, as well as the more experienced fire artist wanting to take their work to the next level.

Leading this weekend will be Dave X, Fire Safety Manager for Burning Man for more than 10 years, and Eric Smith, Chief Inspector for the State of Nevada Board for the Regulation of LP Gas and co-owner of Poofer Supply.

On the Saturday night of the workshop the host artists will treat us to a Campfire Party showcasing works of fire and we will have a meet and greet with local fire enthusiasts from the northern California area.
