September NorthBayNews

Dear North Bay Burners,

I am currently at the Gerlach Regional but thanks to the magic of scheduled posts I’m also in your inbox! This is the first post for the month, I’ll send out another one when I get back from Black Rock City. Meanwhile here are some things for you to read, a reminder about SF Decompression, and some things you can do if you’re not in the desert.

The Man burns in 1 day…Happy Burner New Years!

xoxo RLL

October 20th San Francisco Decompression Call For Participation – with special invite to potentially install art right after Burning Man and leave it up for extended period:

Want to participate in the SF Decompression on October 20th and install your art ahead of time right after Burning Man? Maybe even leave it up for up to 6 months? Well, it’s a possibility!

This year the San Francisco Decompression will be at a stunning new location, a decommissioned power station with lots of outdoor space to place durable art. This could be a great place for your project to go after Burning Man if you don’t have an immediate venue for it, and you’d like to set it up in a leisurely pace and take it down some time after the October 20th SF Decompression.

Art pieces can potentially remain there for an extended period (say 6 months). The best fit for early set up/extended stay is sturdy art that can be outdoors and withstand wind and rain. The site is gated and guarded on an ongoing basis, but its probably better not to leave valuable smaller items there for an extended period.

Essentially this is an opportunity for:
(a) Lots and lots of time to do install and de-install your project and show it at Decompression
(b) A place to have the art seen by additional people (the large La Cocina food-truck event is the weekend before Decom & there are ongoing public tours of the site).
(c) Essentially a fenced and secured location to “store” your art installation fully assembled “rent-free”! … Something we worked out with the property owner, knowing it might help some of you. 🙂

In summary: It’s a great venue – We want your art there! – There’s lots of time available for setup & tear-down – More eyeballs on your art – free rent option to store installed artworks.

To submit an artwork for consideration at Decom, please fill out the Questionnaire here and mention if you are interested in early setup and/or late strike:

New location: at the Potrero Power Station, 420 23rd St, San Francisco, along the Bayshore waterfront (just one lot south of Pier 70). Decompression date: Saturday, October 20th, from 2pm to 2am. All ages.
If you have any questions about bringing art to SF Decom, please reach out to: callforart@burningman.org
